Отзыв: Man gets 22 years jail for unprovoked stabbing of a woman outside a club
A man who stabbed a woman outside a club in Liverpool has been jailed for 22 years.
The victim, who cannot be named, was attacked outside the Foothills Road bar at about 21:30 BST in the early hours of December 4, 2011, by John McArthur, 43, and was left with a collapsed lung, bleeding abdomen and internal bleeding.
The attack prompted police to launch a major manhunt across the city, as they continued to investigate a vicious knife crime, in which someone had been taken to hospital.
McArthur was jailed at Liverpool Crown Court today for 22 years and his victim said it was 'brutal' that she remained unconscious for 22 days afterwards.
'I never realised what had happened, I could feel my legs being pulled but I could not think about anything else at that moment,' she said.
'I can't believe the man that did this to me has still been living. I can't imagine what that must be like, he shouldn't have been on the streets for such a long time.'
Jailing him, Judge Nicholas Kealey QC told him: 'How can this sentence be justified in the light of this horrific case? It is absolutely brutal as far as the victim's physical wellbeing is concerned.'
McArthur, of East Terrace Close, Merseyside, denied three charges at Liverpool Crown Court in December 2011.
He claimed there was a 'false imprisonment' of him and the victim by one of the bar's security staff.
However, the court heard there was no physical evidence that Mr McArthur threatened the victim or her and that police could not link the attack to the victim because she had been drinking heavily.
Judge Kealey said: 'You were drunk and had been so for quite some time.'
'You have no remorse for what you have done.
'Your offending of the victim took place at a time when people were being attacked for some reason, perhaps sexual. And you were the aggressor in taking advantage of what a young woman is facing in her defence.
'Your actions were so brutal and calculated that it took a young girl her whole life to be able to walk upright,' the judge added.
'This sentence is clearly excessive. I am pleased this was the end of that terrible ordeal.'
John McArthur, who is being held on the suspicion of the attempted murder of an 18-month-old girl who was born prematurely with two stab wounds to her mother's left hip, will be sentenced on Monday morning
